The Lumineers® Procedure
When you visit Dr. Rothenberg for a cosmetic consultation, he will conduct an initial examination to make certain that you are in good oral health. He will also go over the various options for cosmetic smile enhancement and dental bonding, so you can make certain that you are choosing the right treatment to achieve your goals.
If you and Dr. Rothenberg decide that LUMINEERS® are the right choice, he will provide you with a free digital image that will show you how you can expect to look following treatment. Then, he will create impressions of your teeth to send to a laboratory, where experienced technicians will create LUMINEERS® in the desired color and shape. Once the LUMINEERS® arrive at our office, Dr. Rothenberg will check the fit and make any needed adjustments. In some cases, he may lightly etch your teeth to create a prime bonding surface. Finally, the doctor will attach the LUMINEERS® one by one, using dental cement.
My patient was unhappy with her smile and wanted to improve her smile without any invasive procedures that would require cutting down the teeth. She was interested in the Lumineer process because it in not invasive, does not require shots, cutting down the teeth, and pain. the procedure is painless, not-invasive, and does not require anesthetic.
Lumineers® vs. Veneers
Many patients confuse LUMINEERS® with porcelain veneers, but while both products cover cosmetic dental imperfections with a porcelain shell, the two have significant differences. To place veneers, a dentist must remove a thin layer of enamel from the teeth to achieve a proper fit. This tooth enamel reduction is permanent and non-reversible, which means you would need to continue to wear veneers for the rest of your life, replacing any that are damaged or dislodged. The veneers must be in place to protect teeth after enamel reduction. Otherwise, your teeth would be extremely sensitive, and more prone to decay and damage.
LUMINEERS®, on the other hand, are a non-invasive, reversible procedure. If you decide you no longer want the restorations, or you are unable to replace a damaged piece, it will not cause a problem for your appearance or your dental health to simply have the LUMINEERS® removed. You will not have to experience the discomfort of tooth enamel reduction, and you can retain the structural integrity of your natural, healthy teeth.
Because Dr. Rothenberg believes in a conservative approach to dentistry, he does not offer traditional porcelain veneers. However, if you already wear veneers and need them replaced, he will be glad to accommodate you.
